Deputy Chairperson Mr Willies Mchunu
 

Mr Willies Mchunu, a trade unionist from 1973 to 1994, during which period he held several positions including the following: Trade Union Organiser, Regional Secretary and Education Officer;

ANC member and Leader from 1980 to date, during which time he was an MK underground operative, UDF activist, ANC Regional Convenor and Chair;

ANC PEC member and Deputy Chair.

SACP member, Provincial Chair and Central Committee member.

Member of the KZN Legislature (1994 to 2019), holding the following positions: Deputy Speaker, Speaker and it was at this time that he became Chairperson of the Cato Manor Development Association and also Chairperson of the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital Board.

Later became MEC Transport, Community Safety and Liaison and later, Premier of KwaZulu-Natal.

Whilst MEC, he was also Chancellor of the Mangosuthu University of Technology.

As Premier, he was also Chair of the AIDS Council and the Social Cohesion and Moral Regeneration Council.

He has considerable expertise in the areas of governance-related matters, peace and stability matters, labour relations matters and social cohesion matters.

He is currently the Deputy Chairperson of the Provincial Planning Commission.
